Introduction To Santorini
While many of us might crave some fun in the sun fact of the matter is Bora Bora or Barbados might be out of our price range. And even though we might not be rich and famous (or not yet anyway) it does not mean you have to have thousands stashed away in your emergency funds to enjoy a much needed break in the sun.
Island of Santorini will delight you with it’s wonderful beaches, breathtakingly pretty sunsets and local hosts that will make sure you are well watered and fed after long days of swimming and having fun. Santorini (also known as Thira) is a volcanic island that belongs to the Cyclades group and has no natural water source so all water is delivered from the nearby Crete. The capital of Santorini is Fira, which although beautiful tends to get a bit overcrowded during the season. If you fancy some rest and relaxation head to Kamari (with it’s black pebble beach) or the charming Oia (with it’s pretty sunsets). To get around the island you can make use of the local buses (between €1-2 depending on your location and destination you are headed to). There are also boats and car hire available if you want to explore at your own pace.
The scenery at Santorini is exceptionally pretty – you can take your pick from the white cobbled streets of Fira, sunsets at Oia or a visit to Akrotiri (a definite must see – 3500 years old town covered in volcanic ash much like Pompei) – your beach holiday at Santorini does not have to be limited to beach lounging every day. And when you get peckish head to one of the numerous tavernas that can been found literally everywhere on the island but do keep in mind if you want to enjoy the pretty views chances are prices will be higher then if you venture to one of the side streets.
