Introduction To Berlin

The capital of Germany with it’s 4.5 million inhabitants Berlin has come a far way. It has history (after all who can forget that faithful day back in 1989 when the wall came tumbling down?), it has plenty of sights and attractions to suit every possible taste, it has lively and vibrant nightlife, tolerant and easy going attitude and it is also a melting pot with tolerant attitude and thriving artistic community.

There is plenty to explore and do in Berlin – visit the remains of the Berlin wall or Checkpoint Charlie to get the taste of how Berlin used to look like when it was divided. Climb atop Reichstag (although be prepared lines can be long, especially during the season) or Berliner Dom to enjoy pretty views of Berlin. Children (and many adults) will be over the moon if a visit to Berlin Zoo is on the itinerary while history and culture buffs will have a field day in Museumsinsel (with it’s large papyrus collection) or the Natural History museum with it’s large collection of dinosaurs bones and fossils – you are bound to be exploring for hours. Once you are done with sightseeing seek some shade in Tiergarten or if you fancy a swim with the locals in the summer seek out Wannsee to go for a dip.

Eating out is relatively inexpensive compared to most other European capitals since there is such a great variety to choose from – anything and everything from Turkish food to the good old currywurst (the local staple). And when it comes to nightlife the sky is the limit in Berlin – even the most demanding of revelers are bound to have a good time (of course with some research beforehand).
