When compared with other major European destinations Vienna might be considered a small city. But what it might lack in size, it definitely makes up in style. And grandeur. A former capital of the Austro-Hungarian empire Vienna loudly whispers of the days gone by – it’s rich cultural, historical but most of all Royal heritage is obvious on literally every corner. Imperial Royal Apartments, Schonbrun –the summer royal residence, St. Stephen’s cathedral – all tell the tale of the mighty Habsburg dynasty.
Culture buffs will love the fact there are not enough hours in the day to explore all the museums, foodies will rejoice in the local bakeries and coffeehouses where the smell of freshly baked pastries and rich, decadent allure of Sacher torte will overpower any logic or reason that might dictate to follow your diet and not succumb. While Vienna might not be the first city that comes to mind as a destination for a wild and debauchery filled weekend it will most certainly appeal if you are looking for a destination ideal for a romantic or cultural city break.
