Introduction To Manila

Manila can be described as the central hub-nub of activity in the Philippines. At first glance it might seem like a city that never sleeps because there is plenty to do and see during both night and day. It is ideally suited for young, enthusiastic and energetic travelers but that does not mean it cannot be enjoyed at a more leisurely pace either.

Located on the east coast of the Luzon island Manila has come a long way since it’s origins in 16th century. In the build up before World War II it was considered one of the prettiest cities in the world, however it was left in ruins at the end of war (in fact it was second most destroyed city after Warsaw). Manila is a city of contrast – dirt, pollution and poverty against the opulence, grandeur and big money. But this is a part of the Manila allure and will make for an unforgettable travel experience.

Explore the ancient Spanish walled city under the name of Intramuros, take a walk at Luneta, admire the history at the famous Manila hotel or look for affordable buys at Chinatown – Manila has plenty to offer to a willing traveler. And when the night falls and city starts to hop you might as well join in – that is after all part of the fun.
