Introduction To Sapporo

Sapporo – the capital city of Hokkaido, the fifth largest city in Japan and it was also host of the 1972 Olympic games. The city itself is relatively easy to navigate since there is a well-connected subway system.

One of the quirks of Sapporo is that it is known for it’s beer brewing and one of the attractions is the Sapporo Brewery (it is styled after German beer gardens and after the tour you can sit, relax and enjoy a few samples). Another tourist attraction is the Odori Park where you can see local musicians and artists and enjoy your lunch on the lawn among the trees and flowerbeds. If you are traveling with children Maruyama Zoo is a great destination not only for all the animals but also for the amusement park. Mt. Moiwa Ropeway stands in the middle of the city at the height of 531 meters and offers some beautiful views of the city. If you want to learn more about the Winter Olympics head to the Sapporo Winter Sports Museum (located at the sight of the 1972 Winter Olympics).
