Introduction To Cairo
One of the most densely populated cities in the world with 16 million residents and holding the title of 19th largest city in the world Cairo is the not only the capital of Egypt but also it’s economical and cultural center.
Cairo offers plenty of sights for the eager traveler so it would be advised to plan your itinerary beforehand. Cairo’s downtown (or Midan Tahrir) is the heart of the city with many businesses and plenty of hotels. But this is where you will also find the Egyptian Museum – the largest museum of Egyptian artifacts in the world and a must see museum for any traveler. Islamic Cairo is the heart of the historic Cairo where you will find great number of sights but by far the most interesting is the Citadel (grand castle built by Salah Al-Din and once upon time the center of Egyptian government). It does offer beautiful views of Cairo. Another must see visit is to the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, this is the last monument of the original Seven wonders of the ancient world and the sight Cairo is most known for all over the world. For people who suffer from breathing problems or do not like confined spaces a tour inside the pyramids might be too much. And bare in mind it is not allowed to climb the pyramids anymore.
When you are done exploring why not take a boat ride on the Nile river? The views are bound to be spectacular.
If you fancy a spot of shopping pay a visit to Khan El-Khalili market or if you fancy buying some crafts try Zamalek district.
If you get peckish in Cairo you can find food literally everywhere however be careful if you do purchase food on the streets (also do not drink tap water or eat unpeeled fruits). For affordable meals you might want to try downtown Cairo. Another thing you must try in Cairo is the traditional coffee house – they vary greatly in style but can be found everywhere.
